Decades ago, villagers in the highlands (Doi) of Northern Thailand faced significant economic hardships and a lack of formal education, making true self-reliance difficult. The mountainous region, however, proved highly suitable for agriculture, offering a unique opportunity for ordinary villagers to discover their own potential and generate a sustainable income without having to leave their ancestral homeland.
Gradually, our community embraced coffee as the path forward. Unlike large commercial operations, we were determined to develop a simple, accessible model that anyone in the village could easily adopt. We took ownership of the entire process, beginning to process and roast the coffee ourselves to meticulously control and achieve our ideal flavor profile.
To ensure the barrier to entry remained low for everyone, we deliberately chose to utilize a traditional, village-style pan-roasting method [a manual roasting technique using a wok or pan over an open fire, distinct from expensive commercial machine roasting]. This accessible shift allowed even the most under-resourced villagers to participate directly in the value chain.
Today, we continue to refine this grassroots framework. In the past, limited by educational opportunities and local resources, many families were forced to watch their youth migrate to the cities for work, breaking families apart. However, we are dedicated to reversing this trend. By designing this sustainable income-generating framework, we allow our people to earn a dignified living while staying securely in their highland homes. Our vision is clear: to help our brothers and sisters increase their family income, proudly preserve our traditional way of life, and keep our families intact.
